BASKETBALL

Basketball is a very popular sport at Special Olympics because it offers so many options for athletes. Basketball has 4 levels: individual skills, half court, full court traditional & full court unified. Wild West provides jerseys at the start of each season (you provide shorts & clean tennis shoes) which are returned at the end of the season. Please bring dry tennis shoes since we meet during winter months.

Individual Skills

This is for athletes who are either new to the game or team and aren't quite ready to play on a team without assistance. For individual skills athletes learn how to dribble, shoot, and pass in a non-team setting. We will sometimes practice with the half court team.

Half Court

Half court is for players who might be new to the game or aren't ready for full court for whatever reason. Half court is 3 on 3. There are no unified players on the half court team nor are 1-1 assistants allowed on court.

Full Court (Traditional or Unified)

Full court is 5 versus 5. The team practices the same skills as any other community basketball team. Traditional full court is 5-5. Unified full court is 5-5, except it's 2 Unified Partners & 3 SO Athletes per team
